Day 3: Cigarette Girl
Cigarette girl was an interesting read. I was not expecting for it to be multiple Slice of Life stories instead of being one over arcing story. When reading, each story felt as if it could have happened. Overall I did not relate much to the stories, I think the one I enjoyed the most was the first story, 'Naruko Tsurumaki's Love". This one I actually related a bit too since they found that stray dog and ended up keeping him. My family and I ended up keeping 4 stray kittens we found under the engine of my car a couple of months ago and this reminded me of this. I liked how he believed that his mother would have kicked the dog out, but ended up making a little place for him. Originally we wanted to find homes for the kittens, but my parents ended up keeping them. The rest of the short stories were overall just depressing for me for none really got a happy ending. The melancholy tone of the stories paralleled the loneliness of the characters. I did not mind reading this manga, though it was not the happy stories I am use to, I understood the importance of this style of storytelling.
